REVIEW: Mistic circa 2012

I am not certain when Mistics were first introduced. I do know that we first purchased our basic kits at WalMart in the early summer of 2012. I write this preamble because the quality might have changed significantly since then.

In 2012, however, they weren't that good. It's not that the flavor was bad - it wasn't. We purchased the menthol starter kits because we typically smoked menthol cigarettes. The Mistics tasted like menthol. But there was very little vapor, and very little throat hit, and the lifespan of the battery was anemic.

The battery was, I believe, rated around 280mAh, and would last for a short space of time. In fact, the battery typically did not last long enough for us to fully recharge another battery before dying. Hence, we were often left without a functional battery.

The cartridges were supposed to be good for up to 300 puffs which they said was equivalent to two packs of cigarettes. They do caution that this will vary depending on the users' puff duration and strength. I do not know what cigarettes they were comparing them to but it did not feel like two packs per cartridge to me. Instead, I felt I needed a cigarette after vaping to calm the nicotine cravings as though the Mistics were only supplying a paltry amount of flavor. It is possible that at that time I purchased the wrong strength of cartridge. Cartridges are now available in 0%, 1.2%, 1.8% and 2.4% volume of nicotine per cartridge.

If you are just starting vaping and were smoking in excess of a pack a day, you will want to start with 2.4%. More often than not, you'll see that read as 2.4mg instead of percentages. 2.4mg is roughly equivalent to a full pack of very strong cigarettes. Note that you can scale back your nicotine intake using Mistics all the way to 0.

At present the Mistic starter kits range in price from approximately $15 to $30. They offer flavors such as Cool Ice, American Blend, Traditional, and Menthol. Most flavors are available in the strengths listed above.

Mistic claims to be available in 60,000 stores nationwide. We purchased our kits at Walmart.

I have not tried this product since 2012, but I have since used one of their Haus personal vaporizers. I would not recommend the product as it was in 2012.

It is interesting to note that Mistic moved their manufacturing operation from China to Greenville, North Carolina earlier this year. Additionally, they have recently released a tank style cartridge similar to those available on their Haus system.
